Info on Next Grading : Interview Questions for Candidates

Those who be going for your Black or Poom belt Grading from Jan 2010 onward, pls take note of the new requirement stated below.

"all red 1 (senior and junior) and 1st and 2nd poom and dan candidates will be required to be interviewed immediately after their practical tests from the January 2010 grading. All candidates must pass this new requirement to qualify for promotion"

Training Cancelled for Thurs & Sat Class
Please take note that this coming Thurs (29th Oct) Katong CC class training is cancelled due to the MPH is under-going the floor renovation work.
And same for Jelutung CC this Saturday (31st Oct), cancellation is due to CC activity event.
Wednesday & Sunday classes will continue as usual.

Oct'09 Grading Result is out!!!
All Raiders who went for 4th Oct 09 Centralised Grading... YOU ALL HAD PASSED!!!
This time round, we had one White-Belt student obtained Double-Promotion - He is from Sat Class - Jelutung CC - Aw Zhi Kuan!!!
In addition, Jelutung CC has another new Senior Black Belt 1st DAN - Angela Ang!!!
Congratulation to ALL!!! :)
But, based on the feedback Grading Examiner, there are few of you need to further brush-up your stances & executions. Especially those Green-Belt and above, pls take note of this else your next Grading may not be so easy...

The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) was informed on Wednesday 23 September 2009 that the car park would be closed for those involved in the Healthy Lifestyle event at the adjacent stadium and also for security reasons.
All club leaders, coaches and parents of candidates are advised to use public transport. If driving is necessary, please park at the nearby HDB car parks.
In view of the expected large crowd on that day, car park space may not be easily available. All those who will be driving may wish to give themselves enough time so that they or the candidates will not be late for the grading.

A note from Mdm
Special thanks to all players who had participated in the 36th National Pesta Sukan TKD Championship 2009. All players have tried their very best to clinch medals for Raiders. Your effort and hard work are appreciated and we share your joy when you are up there receiving your glories.
To those who did not make it to the semifinals, do not despair. A champion does not come by so easily. There are multiple hardworks, multiple trainings, multiple injuries, multiple defeats etc. You may see their glories today, but they were also once like you; sitting there envying the champions. So to those who are defeated, don't be discourage. Pluck up your determination!! Strive to train harder and come back stronger the next round you see them in the ring.
To those who feel that you can do better and yet you did not manage to do so, don't be disappointed too. I am looking forward to your desire in training hard and constantly improving yourself. Your effort will definitely pays well!! Simply because you will DESERVE it!!
Set a target, work towards your goal, achieve it and say hi to your GOLD medal next year!
There will be an invitational tournament next year in March during the one week school holiday. All qualified players will be receiving scheduled and planned trainings from now on. Only selected players will be representing Raiders for this tournament. This shall be our target. Let us all set our target and moves towards our goal. 6 months from now till March'2010, we shall see a different Raiders. Can my warriors do that?? :)
On a final note, I would like to see more leadership and improvements among my seniors. This is my target for all my seniors. Be a model to our young warriors. They are all looking upon you as their visual learning guides. They need your influences to mould them into a better and promising fighters. Can my seniors do that?? :)
Last but not least, special thanks to my Raiders' Referees as well. Jansen Kwok, Catherine Seah and Chee Kit Ying have contributed their referees' roles in the championship. Their long hours of referees job during the 2 weekends do deserve our thanksgiving. On behalf of our club, thank you guys for your hard work and committment. The stress level and tension which you are facing is deeply felt by me. I fully understand as I was once like you guys before. I hope that the process will mould you guys to be a better referee in times to come! Thank you to Polo Sir too. His role as a team manager and Chief Coach has enable the smooth operation of our manpower deployment during the championship. And also to our helpers as well. They are Joseph Kau, Ang Leng Kee, Michelle Lee and Celine Tan.

Teacher's Day Greetings
Over the years, both Mdm and Sir have been receiving Teacher's Day Gifts from Trainees of different classes. They have been quietly receiving them with thanks within their heart. This year, Raiders decided to make it open and give thanks to trainees for their thoughts and effort.
Marilyn had made a card each for both Mdm & Sir. The cards brought warmth and love to both of them. They received the cards delightfully and have expressed their happiness from the little hand that created the cards. It was very well done with the fine art work and nice writtings. :)

NTKD2009 - Raiders' Kyorugi Referees
This year every participating clubs are required to provide Kyorugi Referees for the tournament. Mdm had nominated some Seniors to be the representatives for this event.

TKD Demo - mini NDP Celebration on 1st Aug 09
Last weekend Saturday, our young warriors had performed a great show to the public at this Old Airport road market carpark. It was a TKD Demo performance by 14 kids from Katong Class.
We were invited by Katong CC to perform a TKD Demo for this mini National Day Parade in Mountbatten organised by the Grassroots organisations there. The Guest of honour for that day is our Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.
PS: Parents who had taken some photos or video on the Kids' perfomance, we would like to ask from you whether are you able to share it with us. We would like to upload some photos to our website/Blog. We'll be very much appreciated. Thank You. :)

July 09 Grading Result is out!!!
Congratulation to ALL Raiders, you had done well for the last Grading in July 09. The result is out, we had achieved 100% passing rate with one double promotion (Joseph Kau from Katong Class). In additonal, we had another two new Senior Black Belt 1st DAN - Jansen Kwok (Rivervale CC) & Benny Ho (The Garden). And.. Last but not least, Our Baoling Mdm had passed her 3rd DAN too!!!

PA-STF Championships 2009 - POSTPONED!!!
All Raiders, especially those are involves in this tournament.
This evening, we had been informed by PA (People's Association) that this coming weekend PA-STF Championships had been POSTPONED till further notice.
The participation fee will be refunded, pls wait for Baoling Mdm to process it with STF office.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused in such a short notice. See you after next week Grading Break... :)

Due to upcoming PA-STF tournament tight schedule, we'll postpone this coming Grading break to 2nd week after the Grading on 5th July 09.

Co-operation Required for the Centralized Grading
The centralized grading on 4 and 5 July 2009 will be held in Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall. The STF requires the co-operation of club leaders and coaches in the following areas.
Transport and Parking
The STF is aware that it is not the best place to organize its grading. However, it cannot help it as the regular venue is closed for the Asian Youth Games.
Nevertheless, the STF is appealing to all club leaders and coaches to seek the understanding and co-operation of the candidates and their parents, if they are involved, to bear with any inconveniences caused by the use of the venue.
Please encourage them to use public transport as car park spaces are limited. If they drive, they should be advised to arrive at the sports hall early to have a better chance to getting parking lots.

Brought back 34 Medals!!!
Our Raiders Warriors had participated in the 3rd National Taekwondo Poomsae Championship yesterday(14th Jun 09). The event took place at Yishun Sports Hall yesterday from 8.30am to 11.30pm.
Our Warriors had work very hard in preparing themselves for this competition. With the effort invested, We had managed to clinch many medals back, bringing back glories. We took part in 51 Individual events, 5 Pair events and 2 Team events. Out of the 58 events, we had clinched 34 medals. (6 Golds, 6 Silvers and 22 Bronzes)
This is a great exposure to all of us and this event let us see and learnt how to display a better poomsae performance, in turn will help in our Grading performance.
Our next upcoming target is -- the PA-STF tournaments in July’09.

Attained Overall 3rd placing for Ong Kian Min Cup 2009
GREAT NEWS to share!!!
We had sent 11 Raiders Warriors to this invitational tournament, and they had returned home with 11 trophies!!!
In additional, with their outstanding performance, they had bring back glorious acheivement for Raiders (Jelutung CC) -- attained the OVERALL 3rd Placing for this competition.

Good news!! Today we have received another Friendly matches invitation. Tentative date is fixed on 19th June(Fri) & 31st July(Fri) from 7pm till 10pm @ Bukit Timah Turf Club. Will update you all more info when time is near.

Grading Reminder - Take Note!!!
Pls take note of below highlighted points for Grading:-
1) During grading, male candidates are required to put on groin guard beneath their pants during sparring. They will NOT BE GRADED if they DO NOT PUT ON A GROIN GUARD.
2) Female candidates must put on white round neck t-shirt beneath their uniform for grading and STF activities. Coloured t-shirt, collar t-shirt beneath the uniform is not allowed. They will be FAILED immediately IF WHITE ROUND NECK t-shirt is NOT WORN for grading.
3) Candidates wearing jewelry during grading will be FAILED immediately.

Grading News and Reminders
1st to 2nd Poom Grading
With effect from July 2009 grading, 1st to 2nd poom candidates will be graded with members of their clubs. They will no longer be required to take the grading on Saturday with the seniors.
Please note that the grading for 2nd to 3rd poom candidates will remain unchanged. They will continue to take their grading with the other senior candidates.
Safety Equipment
Groin guard is compulsory for all male candidates who have to do sparring. Candidates without groin guard will not be allowed to spar. It is the responsibility of coaches to ensure that their candidates wear the guard. Examiners will perform random check. Any candidate found without the guard will be disqualified from the grading.
Certificates
Coaches are reminded to attach a photocopy each of the following certificates if their candidates have them.
·Grading Preparation Workshop Certificate
·Unarmed Combat Workshop Certificate
The certificates are to be submitted with their grading applications and not during the grading.
Other Information
During the submission of grading applications for promotion to 1st poom or dan and higher to the Secretariat, coaches are encouraged to highlight important and relevant information – age, disability, medical conditions, etc - about the candidates so that the examiners can give them a fairer assessment.

With effect from July 2009 grading, 1st to 2nd poom candidates will be graded with members of their clubs. They will no longer be required to take the grading on Saturday with the seniors.
Please note that the grading for 2nd to 3rd poom candidates will remain unchanged. They will continue to take their grading with the other senior candidates.
Safety Equipment
Groin guard is compulsory for all male candidates who have to do sparring. Candidates without groin guard will not be allowed to spar. It is the responsibility of coaches to ensure that their candidates wear the guard. Examiners will perform random check. Any candidate found without the guard will be disqualified from the grading.
Certificates
Coaches are reminded to attach a photocopy each of the following certificates if their candidates have them.
·Grading Preparation Workshop Certificate
·Unarmed Combat Workshop Certificate
The certificates are to be submitted with their grading applications and not during the grading.
Other Information
During the submission of grading applications for promotion to 1st poom or dan and higher to the Secretariat, coaches are encouraged to highlight important and relevant information – age, disability, medical conditions, etc - about the candidates so that the examiners can give them a fairer assessment.

Grading : ‘Need-to-know’ Grading Information
The Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) would like to thank all affiliate leaders, coaches and members and their parents for their co-operation and understanding in helping to make the centralized grading at Yio Chu Kang Stadium a success. The STF is sorry if you had been inconvenienced in any way because of the change of grading location.
Here are some of the information which you have to know for the grading.
•Grading Syllabus
The new grading requirements for Poomsae and Technique demonstration, which took effect in the April 2009 grading, are applicable to both junior and senior candidates from white belt to red 1 (that is, red 1 to 1st poom or 1st dan). The poomsae requirement for 1st poom to 2nd poom is different from 1st dan to 2nd dan. For 1st dan to 2nd dan, the old syllabus will apply – that is, Poomsae Koryo and two optional patterns from Taegeuk Il-Jang to Pal-Jang.
For technique demonstration, the examiners shall decide on the number of times the candidates have to execute the kick or combination kicks if there is space constraint. If not, it will be three times towards the examiner/s and three times towards the starting point.
•White T-shirts for Female Candidates
All female candidates, regardless of age, are required to wear white T-shirts inside their ‘dobok’ top. Beige is not white. For the recent centralized grading, two candidates failed because they were wearing other than white T-shirt.
•Candidates’ Conduct
The essence of taekwondo is the development of character. Therefore, the Singapore Taekwondo Federation places a high premium on discipline. Coaches are reminded to ensure that their candidates are at their best behavior at all times. Remember, the conduct of the candidates reflects on the image of the club and its leaders including its coaches.
•Sparring Partners
Candidates are allowed to arrange their own sparring partners because it would be easier for them to express their tactics and skills. The main function of the sparring partners is to bring out the best in the candidates and not to make the candidates look weak or bad. In the recent grading, a candidate failed because all her sparring partners were defensive. The examiners were given the impression that she was not good at all. It was like a black belt giving way to a green belt during sparring.
•Unarmed Combat
For unarmed combat, the examiners expect candidates to perform techniques that are realistic. Unrealistic movements like executing an arm-lock technique that is technically wrong, falling in a direction that does not follow the flow of the throw and thrusting a knife that is completely out of range are not acceptable. Candidates will fail the grading if they fail the unarmed combat component.

Training resume after this week Grading Break
Raiders,
A Gentle reminder - After this week Grading Break week, Training will resume on next Wed (15th April 09) onward.
Except for Saturday Class - Jelutung CC, which there will be no classes on the following Dates: 18th Apr & 25th Apr 09. This is due to most of the Senior Black belt & Instructors will be attending an upcoming "Kyorugi Referee Course". Therefore, Jelutung CC will only resume training on 2nd May 09.
If you can't bear to wait, you are welcome to join the Wed Class at SBW RC Zone-K @ Blk 588B Montreal Drive.
Remember Mdm's requirement? Remember to bring along your skipping rope (for All) and ankle weight (for 14yrs old and above). And not forgetting your Sparring Gears too.
Those who went for last Sunday Grading, All of you had performed well. The official result will release in two weeks time.

Countdown to Grading Day
Raiders, coming weekend is your Grading day (for those going for this Grading)... Remember to practics your Pattern and Basic Kick daily with perfect executions. Lots of Practics made Perfect! And Practics increase your Confident Level too!
You can practics everywhere no only physically execution. As told you before - Visually practics your Pattern in your Head while in MRT, Buses, resting time or before sleeping... Mentally visualise the steps, this will help you remember easily - Mental concentration skill.
- But visualise the CORRECT step.. haha.. :)

Grading Reminder - Sparring

"Coaches are requested to note that full-contact sparring between candidates is not a requirement for grading.
If it is required the Singapore Taekwondo Federation (STF) will make it compulsory for candidates to wear full protective equipment. There is no reason why only groin guard is compulsory for male and optional for female when the STF is committed to ensure the safety of all participants in the grading.
Candidates and sparring assistants are strictly prohibited from engaging in full-contact sparring. Only light or slight contact is allowed.
For the candidates to earn the thumbs-up from the examiners, they have to display adequate sparring techniques and tactics. The expectations from the examiners will be progressively more the higher the grades.
For example, a green belt may pass his sparring test by displaying only one technique during the grading. But it will not see a red belt through in his grading. He is expected to show at least three different techniques and employ two tactical moves. The examiners want to see different types of kicks. Candidates may use straight punches as one of the techniques.
The STF encourages coaches to arrange sparring partners for their candidates. The primary purpose of allowing this arrangement is to give the candidates an ideal condition to showcase their skills.
Candidates should be reminded that the examiners will not hesitate to fail them if they are not serious about the sparring. The examiners will not caution them. They will just fail the candidates if they play the fool"
